For our first exhibition in the space, we are putting together works that are either in-progress, recently completed, or unpolished. We’ve identified a need for a third space, where unfinished works are welcomed as early milestones of larger bodies of work, as a respite from the demands of rigorous practice, where odds and ends find a place at the table and take on a life of their own.
SSB is pleased to announce WORDS & MUSIC—a special one-month residency eligible for writers and composers. On a 40-acre working olive oil farm just outside the tiny hamlet of Petroio, Some Serious Business and artist Carey Maxon offer creators a tranquil sanctuary: a small stone cottage set in the heart of the sensory delights of Tuscan country life. Quiet, private, and inspiring, the residency offers writers and composers the time and space to rest, reflect, and work in a retreat environment far from the intensity of public life and artistic production.
We at Labor Party would like to re-examine how designers build and stoke the fire. In the aftermath of a shockingly brutal act of violence, two people find themselves quarantined in a house, with the world outside threatening their fragile harmony. Director Joseph Mault's short "Strange Kindness" is several scenes of a larger narrative feature to come in 2020, but functions as a standalone study in human nature, pain and consequence.
This is an elegy for insects, a gathering space for being with our feelings around the violence against insect populations and the emotional weight of their decline.
